At Dovetail we believe in the value of good design; we work with our clients as a collaborator and business partner to develop their ideas into good furniture. Our engagement with wework india perfectly illustrates this approach.
We approached them as a prospective vendor and interacted with their design director, who took us through a bunch of design drawings of furniture. We studied the drawings and came back with suggestions on details and materials, considering the aesthetic required, structural stability, modularity, and processing. This led to a long engagement with many iterations resulting in the development of furniture prototypes that were approved for manufacture.
The development was followed by costings and negotiations with the procurement team, which led to a finalisation of rates and a tentative requirement plan for the year, followed by regular orders for different locations as and when they were required. Most of the furniture consisted of oak wood and metal. After the first few sites were handed over, there was a requirement to reduce the costs. We solved this by re-engineering the tabletops so that the solid wood look was maintained but the internal structure reconfigured. Our furniture for wework included tables for conference, cafes, discussions, brainstorming, dining, coffee tables, work chairs, and more.
After the first year we were given a mandate to reduce the cost further and effected that by substituting oak with western hemlock. Meanwhile we worked with them to develop a completely different line of furniture using more metal elements for a new project. During the last 2 years we have supplied furniture for over 20 locations pan India, with consistent quality parameters.
